1. Our Commitment
The Jordan AI Summit 2026 (JAIS 2026) is committed to ensuring digital accessibility for people with disabilities. We believe that access to information and communications technology is a fundamental human right, recognised in Article 9 of the UN Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities (CRPD), to which Jordan acceded in 2008.
We continually improve the user experience for everyone and apply relevant accessibility standards to achieve this. We strive to conform to Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.1 Level AA as published by the World Wide Web Consortium (W3C) on 5 June 2018.
2. Accessibility Standards
Our website and digital services are designed to meet the following standards:
| Standard | Level / Version | Scope |
|---|---|---|
| WCAG 2.1 | Level AA | All web pages, including registration forms, event schedules, and interactive content |
| WCAG 2.2 | Level AA (aspirational) | New features developed after September 2023; includes enhanced focus visibility and dragging alternatives |
| EN 301 549 v3.2.1 | Full compliance | ICT products and services; maps to WCAG 2.1 AA and adds requirements for non-web software |
| ARIA 1.2 (WAI-ARIA) | Latest | Dynamic content, modals, form error handling, and custom UI components |
2.1 WCAG Four Principles (POUR)
Perceivable
Information and UI components must be presentable to all users in ways they can perceive
Operable
UI components and navigation must be operable by keyboard, voice, and assistive technology
Understandable
Information and operation of the UI must be understandable — clear language and error prevention
Robust
Content must be interpreted reliably by assistive technologies as they evolve
3. Conformance Status
We assess conformance using:
- Self-evaluation by the development team against WCAG 2.1 AA success criteria;
- Automated testing using axe-core, WAVE, and Lighthouse accessibility audits;
- Manual keyboard navigation testing;
- Screen reader testing with NVDA (Windows), VoiceOver (macOS/iOS), and TalkBack (Android).
3.1 Last Formal Assessment
Date of last formal accessibility assessment: 1 January 2026. We aim to conduct formal assessments every 6 months and after major site updates.
4. Accessibility Features
JAIS 2026 currently implements the following accessibility features:
4.1 Visual
- Colour contrast: Text meets WCAG AA minimum contrast ratio of 4.5:1 for normal text and 3:1 for large text;
- Text resizing: Content remains usable when browser text is zoomed to 200%;
- No content conveyed by colour alone: Icons and status indicators use both colour and shape/text;
- Focus indicators: Keyboard focus is always visible with a high-contrast outline;
- Responsive design: The site adapts to viewport widths from 320px to 4K resolutions.
4.2 Navigation
- Skip navigation link: "Skip to main content" is the first focusable element on every page;
- Semantic HTML: Proper use of heading hierarchy (h1–h6), landmark regions (main, nav, aside, footer);
- Keyboard accessibility: All interactive elements are reachable and operable via keyboard;
- Consistent navigation: Navigation menus appear in the same location across all pages;
- Page titles: Each page has a unique, descriptive title.
4.3 Content
- Alternative text: All informative images have descriptive alt attributes; decorative images have empty alt="";
- Language declaration: The primary language of the page is declared in the HTML lang attribute;
- Error identification: Form errors are clearly identified and described in text;
- Labels: All form inputs have associated visible labels;
- No time limits: Sessions time out with at least 20 minutes warning and the ability to extend.
4.4 Multimedia
- Video captions: All pre-recorded video content includes closed captions (WCAG 1.2.2);
- Audio descriptions: Pre-recorded video includes audio descriptions of visual content where necessary (WCAG 1.2.5);
- No autoplay: Media does not autoplay with audio; users control playback;
- No flashing content: No content flashes more than 3 times per second (WCAG 2.3.1).
5. Known Limitations
We are aware of the following accessibility limitations and are actively working to resolve them:
| Issue | Affected Page(s) | WCAG Criterion | Planned Fix |
|---|---|---|---|
| Some PDF documents (speaker bios, programme) lack tagged structure | Speakers, Programme | 1.3.1 Info and Relationships | Q1 2026 — all PDFs to be regenerated with accessible tags |
| Video recordings from 2025 archive lack captions | Archive / Media | 1.2.2 Captions (Prerecorded) | Q2 2026 — auto-captions applied and reviewed |
| Interactive event map uses canvas — not accessible to screen readers | Venue | 1.1.1 Non-text Content | Q1 2026 — accessible text alternative venue description added |
| Some carousel controls lack visible focus state on legacy browsers | Home | 2.4.7 Focus Visible | Resolved in next deployment cycle |
If you encounter an issue not listed here, please report it using the details in Section 8.
